Five Points Gallery is a five-year-old not-for-profit arts organization in Torrington, CT. Its
mission is to to champion and nurture artists at all stages of their careers and to
empower a diverse community through the presentation of inspiring exhibitions and
educational initiatives. Five Points currently includes: three exhibition spaces that each
offers 9 shows of emerging and established local, national and international
contemporary artists each year; a Launch Pad for young artists in partnership with the
Hartford Art School, University of Hartford; educational programs for the community and
special events that highlight various aspects of the visual arts. A fully equipped print
studio is now being constructed and a wide range of additional initiatives is in the
planning. The longterm goal is to create a vibrant arts center in Northwest Connecticut.
In order to achieve this goal, Five Points must raise significant funds to support and
maintain its expansion. The job of the Director of Development will be to lead this fund
development effort.

  • Identify potential funding sources among individual and institutional donors,
  • focusing primarily on donations of $10,000 and above
  • Prepare proposals and supporting materials for presentation to potential
  • funders, tailoring each to the particular interests and objectives of the
  • potential donor
  • Shepherd proposals through the application process
  • Follow through on all proposals, especially including ongoing stewardship of
  • donors
  • Work with Executive Director and Board to involve all appropriate people in
    cultivation and stewardship processes
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to Five Points’ mission and plans for its
  • future
  • Proven experience in fundraising for major gifts, especially from individual
  • donors
  • Experience in fundraising for arts organizations, with an emphasis on the
  • visual arts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Sense of urgency and an ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Experience in working in partnership with board members
  • At least a bachelor’s degree, with post graduate experience a plus
  • Competence in the use of philanthropy focused data bases


  • Direct oversight by the Executive Director
  • Staff responsibility to the Development Committee

Employment Term
  • Work hours and schedule subject to negotiation
  • Salary dependent on experience
